- Keep a fallback `src` when using `srcset` or `<picture>`.

For a small service site with 30 pages and standard HTML assets, this may not be the highest priority. I'd rather fix oversized hero files, weak service page copy and missing proof first.

Ask where the sitemap sits in the wider technical plan. If it's proposed as a standalone silver bullet, that's weak. If it sits alongside crawl diagnostics, Search Console validation, CDN checks and template improvements, it may be sensible.
The right question isn't "do we've one?" The right question is "are important assets discoverable through at least one reliable route, and can we monitor errors?"

Measure image work through page-level outcomes, not only technical completion. The best reports combine Search Console visibility, Core Web Vitals, crawl status, content quality and commercial behaviour.
